Glenkinchie Distillery and Paul Hogarth Company Win Landscape Institute Award for Excellence in Small Landscape and Garden Design

The OUTCO Grounds Maintenance teams are thrilled to be involved and support the Glenkinchie Distillery and The Paul Hogarth Company for their award from The Landscape Institute in Excellence in Small Landscape and Garden Design.

The Paul Hogarth Company have won the Landscape Institute Award for Excellence in Small Landscape and Garden Design for their work on the Glenkinchie Distillery Garden in Scotland. The award was presented at the Landscape Institute Awards ceremony on November 3, 2023, and recognises the outstanding design and delivery of the Glenkinchie Distillery Garden.

The Glenkinchie Distillery Garden is a small but perfectly formed space that celebrates the distillery’s natural setting and rich heritage. In an era where environmental consciousness is paramount, the landscape design at Glenkinchie Distillery stands as a testament to the commitment to sustainability.

Native plant species have been prioritised to support local biodiversity, and eco-friendly practices have been integrated into every aspect of the design and maintenance process. The garden is designed to be enjoyed by visitors of all ages and abilities, and it features a variety of different elements. Overall design with a nature sustainability strategy to encourage pollination and protect wildlife in the local area. This includes the installation of beehives, bat houses, bug boxes, and plantings to attract, feed, and shelter insect pollinators, birds, and other native creatures.

A sensory garden with plants that can be touched, smelled, and tasted, a place for visitors to learn about the different plants that are used in the whisky-making process, and to experience the flavours and aromas of the distillery’s whiskies in a new way.

A children’s play area with natural materials for children to let off steam and explore, while also learning about the natural world around them.

A seating area where visitors can take a break from sightseeing and enjoy a dram of Glenkinchie whisky, or simply to relax and soak up the atmosphere of the distillery.

A boardwalk that winds through the garden and offers glimpses of the distillery’s production process, allowing visitors to learn about how whisky is made, and to see the distillery’s beautiful copper stills up close.

In a statement, OUTCO’s delivery manager said: “We are delighted to have played our part in supporting this project and are particularly proud of the fact that the garden is enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities, and that it celebrates the distillery’s natural setting and rich heritage.”
